Description
What you will learn
You will learn how to make a new cushion with or without zip in your chosen fabric and fill with new foam (soft or firm to suit your preference). You will need to use a sewing machine so some previous ‘how to’ knowledge with a sewing machine is advisable. Your completed cushion can be made with or without decorative piping.
The springs on this chair have lost their springiness so we will guide you on how to replace them with new.
The wooden frame is in good structural condition however the old tinted varnish that was fashionable back in the day when it was new is begining to show signs of wear. We can guide you on how to strip back the varnish to reveal the original pale wood underneath which looks lovely once oiled and waxed. (See photos below for examples).
The back of the chair is fixed Upholstery (no sewing machine required in this process). You will learn how to replace the old filling and stuffing with new and recover using core upholstery techniques in your chosen fabric.
Here are some before and after photos of a pair of Parker Knolls chairs (simular in style) from a previous project to give you an idea of how it could look.
Depending on your skill level, we would estimate around 8 – 12 weeks to complete this project. Maybe less if you are keen to work on your chair at home between classes.
